Professor Geoffrey Moriaso Ole Maloiy (b. 1939, Kajiado County) is a pioneering Kenyan scholar and the first Maasai to hold a professorial position in the Rift Valley Province. Educated at the University of British Columbia (BSc, 1964) and the University of Aberdeen (PhD, 1968), he established a distinguished career in comparative animal physiology. His academic achievements were cemented by earning multiple Doctor of Science (DSc) degrees, including a landmark DSc in Comparative Animal Physiology from Aberdeen University in 1985.Returning to Kenya, Prof. Maloiy spent four decades at the University of Nairobi, becoming a full professor in 1975, and later served as Chancellor of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). His research specialized in the physiology of East African herbivores and human load-carrying energetics.A fellow of the African Academy of Sciences and the Royal Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, he authored over 190 papers and six books. Recognized with the EBS and MBS honors, he remains a seminal figure in African science.
